Absentee Voting Facts and Deadlines

  • Absentee ballot applications to vote by mail or traveling board for the 2016 Presidential Election must be submitted to the Circuit Court Clerk's Office, 101 N. Main St., Rm. 204, Goshen, IN 46526.
  • Applications to vote absentee by mail must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, October 31, 2016. The post-mark date does not apply.  Click here to obtain an absentee ballot by mail application
  • Applications to vote absentee by travel board must be received by noon on Monday, November 7, 2016.  The post-mark date does not apply.  Click here to obtain an absentee ballot by travel board application
  • Applications may be hand-delivered, mailed, or faxed and will not be accepted at any other location.  Applications can now also be submitted by e-mail, see e-mail address below.

Absentee Voting in Person Information

Absentee voting in person for the 2016 Presidential Election will begin at 8:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 12, 2016.

Absentee voting in person for the 2016 Presidential Election will end at 12:00 noon, Monday, November 7, 2016.

Voters will need to show a photo ID that meets ALL of the following criteria:

1.Displays the voter's photo,
2.Displays the voter's name,
3.Displays an expiration date, and must either be current, or have expired after November 4, 2014, AND
4.Must be issued by the State of Indiana, or the Federal Government*

     *In most cases, an Indiana driver's license, Indiana photo ID card, Military ID or US Passport is sufficient. A student ID from an Indiana State school may only be used if it meets all of the 4 criteria specified above. A student ID from a private         institution may not be used for voting purposes. 
NOTE: An ID issued by the US Department of Defense, a branch of the uniformed services, the Merchant Marine, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (or Veterans Administration), or the Indiana National Guard is not required to have an expiration date, or may state that the document has an "Indefinite" expiration date.

Schedule - below schedule was approved by the Election Board at a public meeting on 8/11/16.

Mondays (except November 7) - 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Elkhart and Goshen ONLY)
Tuesday through Friday - 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  (Elkhart and Goshen ONLY)
Saturday, October 29 - 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  (ALL 4 LOCATIONS)
Saturday, November 5 - 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (ALL 4 LOCATIONS)
Monday (November 7) - 8:00 a.m. to NOON - noon is the deadline to vote absentee in-person. (Elkhart and Goshen ONLY)

Important Information

2017 and 2018 Elections Updates

There are no scheduled elections in 2017.  If a special election should be required, we will post more information as it becomes available.

2018 is a Countywide election year.  Check back in the fall of 2017 for more detailed information.
